Introduction

All Merge subscribers are provided with voicemail.

This page provides a guide to setting up and using your voicemail box.

 Accessing your voicemail

There are two ways to access your voicemail box.

  • From your phone: to access your voicemail box from your own Merge connected phone or softphone dial *123.  You will not be asked to enter a PIN number or password and will be logged on automatically.  You will then be at the main menu as illustrated above.
  • From another phone: to access your voicemail box from another phone dial 04 913‑8140.  You will be prompted to enter your Merge voicemail box number followed by your PIN number.
    • The format of your voicemail box number is 644xxxxxxx where the xxxxxxx matches the 7 digits of your public telephone number
    • Your PIN is provided in the confirmation email you receive from Merge when you sign up
    • After successfully entering your Merge voicemail box and PIN numbers you will be at the main menu as illustrated above

Navigating the voicemail menus

By in large pressing a prompted key will result in the action indicated.

In some areas of the voicemail system you will be asked to enter some details via the keypad then enter the “pound” key.  The “pound” key is the # key on your telephone keypad.

Pressing * in most areas of the voicemail system will cause the menu options at the level you are on to be re-listed.

Customising your voicemail box

You should customise your voicemail box as soon as your phone is set up and going.

You should do the following

  • Access your voicemail box dialling 888 from your Merge phone or 04 913‑8140 from another phone
  • Record your unavailable message:
    • Press 0 for Mailbox options
    • Press 1 for Unavailable Message
    • Wait for the prompt and beep then record your Unavailable Message – e.g. “Hi, John here.  I can’t answer your call right now, but if you leave a message after the tone I will call you back as soon as I can.”
    • Press the appropriate key to Accept, Listen or Re-record as required until your Unavailable Message is successfully recorded and accepted.
    • You should be back at the options menu when you have done this
  • Record your busy message:
    • Press 2 for Busy Message
    • Wait for the prompt and beep then record your Busy Message – e.g. “Hi, John here.  I’m on the phone and can’t take your call right now, but if you leave a message after the tone I will call you back as soon as I am off the phone.”
    • Press the appropriate key to Accept, Listen or Re-record as required until your Busy Message is successfully recorded and accepted.
    • You should be back at the options menu when you have done this
  • Record your name:
    • Press 3 for Name Recording
    • Wait for the prompt and beep then record your Name– e.g. “John Smith”.
    • Press the appropriate key to Accept, Listen or Re-record as required until your Name is successfully recorded and accepted.
    • You should be back at the options menu when you have done this
  • Change your PIN:
    • Press 5 for Password
    • Wait for the prompt and beep then enter a new password (4 to 6 numeric digits)
    • You will be prompted to re-enter your password – enter the same 4 to 6 digit password
    • An announcement will confirm successful change of your password.
    • If you get it wrong the voicemail system will prompt you to re-enter the details until you get it right.
    • You should be back at the options menu when you have done this
    • Hang up
